Farm Sanctuary Delivers Cow Postcards To Every Home For Contest

Lewis Oliver Farm Sanctuary wants Northport residents to take Annabelle the cow on an adventure and send their best photos.

If Northport residents were wondering why a postcard of a cow named Annabelle arrived in their mailbox recently, Patch has the scoop from Lewis Oliver Farm Sanctuary. Anabelle the cow was rescued at age one from a breeding farm and has become one of the most recognizable mascots of the sanctuary. She was chosen as the face of the postcard competition, a labor of love from farm volunteer Lorene Erikson. The postcard was sent to every mailbox in the 11768 zip code on December 18th to launch a photo contest dubbed "Co MOO Nity Appeal."

The sanctuary, now owned by the Town of Huntington and Suffolk County, cares for rescued farm animals with the help of nonprofit Friends of the Farm, Northport Inc. To enter the contest, residents can take the Annabelle postcard anywhere they go and take a picture of where she ends up, whether it's on a family vacation to Paris or hanging out at Northport harbor.

The nonprofit is hoping the photo contest encourages continued support from the community. "We are hoping everyone in the Northport Community will continue their generous support by making a tax-deductible donation in response to our appeal to help cover Annabelle and the rest of our animals ongoing hay, feed, bedding and veterinary care costs," the group posted on their Facebook page where contest winners will be announced in January. Submissions can be sent via Facebook until January 15th. There are three categories participants can win prizes in: Best Northport Shot, Most Creative and World Traveler.
