Northport, NY— On January 6, Northport High School students from the double-accelerated math program presented research to prepare for the 2020 Al Kalfus Long Island Math Fair on May 1 at Hofstra University. The math competition will include students from Nassau and Suffolk counties competing for bronze, silver and gold level awards, along with a prestigious Alice Griswold Award.
The presentation topics included "Math in Scuba Diving" and "Probability and Statistics in Sports.” Students were then given feedback by their peers as well from teachers.
The Al Kalfus Long Island Math Fair is sponsored by the Nassau County Association of Mathematics Supervisors. Its aim is to give students the opportunity to explore topics beyond the standard math curriculum.
