Northport Police Blotter: Massachusetts Man Charged With DWI
ALSO: Newborn deer found; woman found unresponsive; tree falls on car; loose dog found; and possible fraud attempts reported, police say.
NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from May 27 through June 2.
The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- Nils Reker, 55, of Arlington, Massachusetts, was found asleep by police in the driver's seat of a 2004 gray Volvo while it was running on School Street around 4:20 a.m. June 2, police said. The officer woke Reker and interviewed him, police said. Reker's breath smelled of alcohol, his speech was slurred and sluggish, and his eyes were bloodshot, police said. When the officer asked Reker to go to the back of the Volvo, Reker had to use the side of the car for balance, police said. The officer tried to have Reker perform field sobriety tests, but Reker was only able to complete a part of a test, poorly, because of his level of intoxication, police said. Reker was arrested and brought to Northport police headquarters, where he refused a chemical test, police said. Reker was charged with driving while intoxicated.
Incidents
- Police were called to Municipal Lot #5 for a hit-and-run around 12:20 a.m. May 27. The caller said he heard a loud noise as he was exiting his apartment to smoke a cigarette. He said he thought the vehicle was hit by a four-door Hyundai exiting a parking space. The officer tried to contact the owner of the vehicle, but was unable to and left a message.
- A dead bird was found on Bayview Avenue on May 27. Police disposed of it.
- A woman on May 28 told police she received a fraudulent credit card bill from a Target credit account that she never opened. The woman said she already canceled the card and put a freeze on her credit account. The credit company was going to clear the balance of the account once they were provided a police report number; no monetary loss can be reported.
- An officer responded to Woodhull Place for a report of possible identity theft on May 30. The man said he received a letter in the mail from Concora Credit, advising him that his application for a new credit card account was unapproved. The man said he did not apply for an account and that his credit score listed in the letter was also incorrect. The man said he did not suffer any financial losses and has already contacted the credit bureaus. Police told the man to contact his financial institutions and put a hold on his accounts.
- Officers found a loose dog on Scudder Place on May 30 and took him to North Shore
Veterinary to be chipped. The owner came to pick up his dog. - Possible gunshots were reported on Stanton Street on May 31. Police were told it was fireworks.
- A woman was found unresponsive on Nautilus Avenue at 10:23 a.m. June 1. Northport Rescue brought her to Huntington Hospital.
- Police responded to Ocean Avenue for a report of a reckless driver on June 1. The vehicle was traveling southbound on Ocean Avenue, police said. The officer interviewed the driver and issued a summons for driving with an overload of passengers.
- A driver was issued a summons for a parking violation on School Street on June 2.
- Summons were issued because of widespread parking violations on Bayview Avenue on June 2.
- A newborn deer was reported on Bluff Point Road around 4 p.m. June 2. An officer responded and called Animal Rescue, leaving a message. The caller was also given the animal rescue contact information and he will continue to try to contact them while keeping the deer on his property until they respond.
- A tree fell on a vehicle at Municipal Lot #9 on June 2. The caller said he found a small tree stump that had fallen off the rear backyard of a Highland Avenue home backyard and hit the trunk of the his vehicle.
