Northport Police Blotter: Woman Steals Antique French Dove

ALSO: A man went to his wife's car to grab something when he found another man sleeping inside the vehicle, police say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Check out some recent police incidents for the Northport Village area from Sept. 2 through Sept. 8.

The Northport Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • A woman was taken into custody after stealing an antique ceramic French dove valued at
    $72 from The Nest on Main Street on Sept. 2, police said.
  • Two vehicles were issued summonses for parking on a no-parking zone on Bayview Avenue on Sept. 3.
  • A female dislocated her knee on Fort Salonga Road on Sept. 4. Northport police waited for Suffolk police to arrive to help her.
  • Dogs got loose on Beach Avenue on Sept. 4. The dogs were recovered and brought back to their owner's home. Police issued an appearance ticket for unleashed dogs.
  • A man was asleep in someone else's vehicle on Fort Salonga Road around 10:10 p.m. Sept. 4. A man told police he was getting something from his wife's vehicle that was parked in their driveway when he found an elderly man he did not know sleeping in the vehicle. The man said the older man told him he was looking for a place to sleep. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle. Police found the man shortly after on Fort Salonga Road and admonished him not to enter any person's private property without consent.
  • Landscapers doing work on Scudder Avenue around 7:45 a.m. Sept. 6 were asked to stop working by police until 8 a.m. All landscaping equipment was immediately turned off.
  • A woman went to police headquarters on Sept. 6 to report a possible phone scam. The woman told police that she was involved in a scam through TikTok. The woman said she was contacted by someone on the social media platform about using one of her posts for a painting. The woman agreed to this and in return would be compensated with $500, she told police. One stipulation to the payment was, she had to deposit $1,500 in checks from a third party and would have to send the TikTok individual $1,000, according to police. The complainant deposited the checks, but thought the whole situation was a scam. Police determined the checks deposited were fraudulent and that the woman was a victim of a scam. The officer told the woman to contact her bank and advise them of the fraudulent checks. The woman did not lose any money at the time of her report.
  • Someone was issued an appearance ticket for unleashed dogs on Woodbine Avenue on Sept. 6.
  • A tree fell and blocked Woodbine Avenue on Sept. 7, downing wires. The tree was removed, and PSEG, Verizon and Optimum were notified of the wires.
