Northport Police Ramp Up Security Following Boston Bombing
Emergency plan in place for upcoming events.

The Northport Police Department issued a statement Tuesday in reaction to the Boston Marathon bombings that killed three and injured 176 Monday afternoon:
Immediately upon word of this event reaching us, the Northport Police Department elevated its alert status and the department's Emergency Preparedness Plan was implemented. Thus, all critical infrastructures within the village were inspected and additional personnel were added to supplement regular patrols.
Additionally, Police Commissioner Tom Kehoe and Chief Ric Bruckenthal reviewed the department's Emergency Preparedness Plan. This review focused on how the department's policing of upcoming events within the village may be affected by the Boston incident or any other eventuality.

Commissioner Kehoe said Northport will adjust its security protocols for upcoming events such as the Memorial Day Parade and the Great Cow Harbor Race in September, which attracts thousands of participants and spectators each year.
"Unfortunately whenever there's something like this there's a trickle down effect," he said, "but we can't let this type of stuff stop us from being a free country."
