Northport Swimmer Wins Two State Titles

Congratulations to Chloe Stepanek.

Northport High School varsity swimmer Chloe Stepanek placed first in the 100- and 200-yard freestyles at New York State Championships held at Ithaca College on Nov. 17 and 18. Northport High School, as a whole, finished 11th in state for the NYS Federation, and ninth in state for NYSPHSAA schools.

In the preliminaries, Stepanek broke her own county record with a 1:49.35, and then bettered it by almost two seconds in finals. In addition, she broke a 13-year-old county record in the 100-yard freestyle that was set by Julia Smit, the 2008 U.S. Olympian. Both of her final swims were automatic All-American times, and she was awarded the Most Outstanding Competitor award for the competition.
