NORTHPORT, NY — Dusk, a 2-year-old female cat, is the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Cat of the Week.

Dusk was happy with a home of her own. But when her owner died, she was tossed out of the only home she ever knew, said Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue.

"She was so terrified, she tried to navigate life as an outdoor cat," Wild said. "She was attacked by another feral cat, and injured and was thankfully rescued by a caring young lady that had just moved into the neighborhood."

Dusk holds no resentment towards people, Wild said.

"She wants to be near you, on you, in your arms or nuzzled in your neck. She is the most affectionate fur baby, and she desperately wants to be part of a family…one that will never let her down again."

Dusk is terrified of dogs and trembles around them, as well as other cats.

"Our guess is, this is from her time outside, trying to survive," Wild said. "She will need to be an only pet. But she is all you will ever need if you are looking for furry companionship."

People can visit Dusk at Doggie Dons in East Northport.

"She is curled up, somewhat sad," Wild said. "She loves visitors though and will come right over to you through the cage, if spoken to gently. She will win your heart."

Dusk is spayed, has all her shots, is litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.

The Northport Cat Rescue Association is scheduled to have an adoption event at Petco Commack, at 30 Veterans Memorial Highway, Commack from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. June 1.

"Dusk will be there, as well as all her other friends," Wild said. "In fact, if you fill out an application to adopt a beautiful, bonded pair at our event, we will waive the adoption fee for the second kitty. We need to empty the habitats and get these fur babies their happily ever afters!"

If you are interested in meeting Dusk, you may head to the Northport Cat Rescue website and fill out an application to let them know you would like to meet her or any of the rescue's other wonderful kittens and cats! Or you can call NCRA at 631-606-2631 or email info@northportcatrescue.org.
