NORTHPORT, NY — "A Summer in Greece" photo exhibit is coming to Northport Public Library this August, photographer Iris Zaverdas De Vita announced.

The exhibit is set to run Aug. 1 through Aug. 30. De Vita is inviting people to take a visual journey through Greece in her exhibit, which is free and open to the public.

The collection was inspired by De Vita's 19-day trip to Greece in 2014 with her family. A proud Greek American, the visit was "especially meaningful" to her, she said. She explored Athens, Patras, Mykonos, Santorini, and several charming villages — striving to capture the country’s natural beauty through her lens.

While in Patras, De Vita visited her parents’ childhood homes — her father’s tucked in the mountains and her mother’s near the sea.

"It means a great deal to have my photos displayed at the Northport Public Library, especially as a recent resident of this charming town," De Vita told Patch. "Northport has always held a special place in my heart, and since moving here, I’ve found that the town's natural beauty and historical charm remind me so much of Greece. From the tranquil beaches and hilly roads with stunning views, to the captivating sunsets and coastal beauty, the two places share a unique, timeless quality."

The exhibit features vibrant photos of sun-soaked beaches, sparkling turquoise waters, and the breathtaking landscapes that left a lasting impression on her.

Each image reflects the "peaceful magic, deep history, and beauty of Greece" that continues to inspire her work in present day, she said.

De Vita, as a photographer said her work is deeply tied to the landscapes she captures.

"Having my images of Greece featured here feels like a beautiful way to bring a bit of that Mediterranean magic to this community," she said. "The library itself is such an inspiring setting — it’s an honor to share my vision with the people of Northport, in a place that nurtures creativity and learning. It feels like a full circle moment for me, both as an artist and as a new member of this wonderful town."

De Vita said she is "really proud" to share her Greek heritage with others.

"Greece is such a beautiful country, and I want people to experience all of it — the breathtaking landscapes, the rich history, the warmth of the people and the delicious food," De Vita said. "There’s just something about the culture that’s so inviting and inspiring. I hope my work encourages others to visit, explore, and really connect with the heart of Greece. To me, it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world."

Travel has become one of De Vita's top passions, and she looks forward to seeing more of the world, she said.

"Taking photos is one of my favorite ways to capture special moments, scenes, and memories," she said. "Each trip offers something new, and I can’t wait to plan more adventures and continue documenting the beauty I encounter along the way."
