I have a 7 year old son, Nicholas who, is in special education at Northport-East Northport school district. I [want to] nominate his "1:1" the last two years Holly Vassallo, his teacher who made him actually like school, Tanya Perry, and his current teacher Marissa Delcolle. I feel it is hard with especially special education children to pinpoint the one person who has such a positive impact on students like my son because these kids are often ostracized at such a young age and they work really hard to change minds and make them feel included, wanted and welcomed.
All special education teachers need some recognition for the above and beyond work that they do because not many parents do let them know how much it is appreciated by both the parents but more importantly the child.
Laurie Welch Storch, the principal of Dickinson Avenue Elementary school told Patch she is honored that her staff members have been nominated.

"I am moved everyday by their compassion, dedication and unwavering commitment to all students. I am honored that one of our parents took time to share our story of this incredible team of teachers."
