Woodbine Marina Renovations Delayed

Upgrades to the Town of Huntington's Woodbine Marina in Northport have been pushed back until November due to a permit delay caused by Hurricane Sandy.

The town had filed the permits necessary to begin dredging in November, said Maritime Director Ed Carr, but received the permits too late to finish the job within the time frame required by the Army Corps of Engineers. Dredging is necessary to remove silt deposits and repair the dilapidated wave baffles at the marina.

"I realize this is a disappointment to you," Carr wrote in a Jan. 25 letter to slipholders. "No one is more disappointed than I am, since the existing wave
baffles have become loose due to Sandy, and will require constant care and monitoring by staff for another season."

The town approved renovation plans for Woodbine Marina in Spring 2012. Renovations include the addition of "Finger Floats" that branch off the main platforms which will allow owners to access their boat from the side. All floating
platforms will be made of cement surfaces with heavy buoyancy systems beneath to provide more stability. Lighting, electric, and water will also be added.

The town hopes to have the renovations completed by Spring 2014 and all boats out of the water by Nov. 2013 to begin dredging.
