Kids Spanish Immersion Program Gets New Park Slope Home

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Spanish language immersion center Juguemos a Cantar, which operates play spaces, pre-schools, and after school programs for children, is opening a new Park Slope location on Oct. 13.

The new space, located at 511 5th Ave., will host a play space from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as after school programming, which runs from 3 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Juguemos aims to teach Spanish through interactive, creative activities, staffer Christina Riera explained to Patch. The play spaces, aimed at children six months to four years old, feature a variety of Spanish immersion activities, including sing-a-longs, story telling, and dance and movement classes.

All children most be accompanied by an adult. The 5th Ave. play space will cost $12 for three hours of play, plus $3 for every additional sibling. However, the new location is celebrating its grand opening by offering free play from 9-12 on opening day.

Juguemos' after school programming, geared toward kids from four to 10 years old, offers workshops, snacks, play time, and Spanish classes that teach vocabulary and basic reading and writing. The organization picks up students in the program from a number of area schools, including P.S. 133, P.S. 321, and P.S. 39, though students can be dropped off as well.

Starting in the fall of 2017, Juguemos will also open a pre-school at the 5th Avenue space (you can sign up for a tour online). The program currently runs two other pre-school programs — one at 357 6th St., and one at 47 Sterling Pl.
