A crafty crook cashed a forged check for close to $5,000 from a Carroll Street resident’s bank account on Jan. 25.

The 31-year-old victim told police that a crook fraudulently debited his bank account for $4,900 by using a forged check.Â

A scamming crook convinced a Union Street resident to deposit over $4,000 into their bank account on Jan. 30.
The 56-year-old victim told police that she entered into a Clearing House Sweepstakes a couple of months ago and on Jan. 30 she received a call stating that she had won the sweepstakes. The caller told her that in order to receive the lump sum she had to first deposit money into a specific bank account. The crook instructed her to go to Bank of America on Seventh Avenue and deposit two checks, one for $2,900 and another for $1,275. The victim followed instructions and never received the “sweepstakes.”
