'Sheep to Shawl' in Three Hours? No Problem for These Yarn Pros.

The 5th Annual Kings County Fiber Festival is this weekend at The Old Stone House in Park Slope.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Park Slope's Old Stone House will host the 5th Annual Kings County Fiber Festival this weekend, featuring more than three dozen vendors, workshops and exhibitions dedicated to the knitting and fiber-related arts.

The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Old Stone House is located at 336 3rd St.

Vendors will be displaying numerous types of homemade yarns and knitted products, according to Old Stone House staffers, with many preparing to display their work at the upcoming New York State Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, New York.

Special events are also planned. There's an "arm knitting" workshop at 11 a.m., where you can learn to knit using just your hands and arms.

At 1 p.m. crafters from Spin City will conduct a three hour "sheep to shawl" demonstration, where they'll start with a pile of freshly shorn wool, and turn it into an 18-by-72-inch shawl by 4 p.m.

And there will also be demonstrations running from noon to 4 p.m. on how to make homemade dyes using plant-based color sources.
