1,950 Lbs Of Venison Donated To LI Cares After Floyd Estate, Fire Island Culling

Ninety-eight deer were removed from the seashore's properties, including 45 from the Floyd Estate and 53 from Fire Island.

FIRE ISLAND, NY — Fire Island National Seashore has donated 1,950 lbs of venison meat to Long Island Cares – The Harry Chapin Food Bank in Hauppauge following the conclusion of the annual deer culling, officials said.

Ninety-eight deer were removed from the seashore's properties, which includes William Floyd Estate in Mastic Beach. Forty-five were removed from the estate and 53 from Fire Island.

Fire Island National Seashore Superintendent Alexcy Romero said the donation demonstrates the agency's "commitment to continued support for our local community.”

“Fire Island National Seashore is committed to protect and restore natural habitats and historic landscapes at Fire Island National Seashore, as outlined in the park’s integrated deer management strategy," he said.

Darlene Selario, retail donation coordinator for Long Island Cares, said the donation "is making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve."
