Teens Found With Weapons During Traffic Stop In Suffolk, Police Say

A man who tried to run from police had a 9 mm handgun with extended magazines on him, while a second gun was found in a vehicle, police say.

PATCHOGUE, NY — Four males were arrested after Suffolk police said they found them in possession of weapons during a traffic stop in Patchogue on Tuesday.

A 17-year-old was driving a 2019 Chevrolet when a Fifth Precinct Community Support Unit officer initiated a traffic stop for a suspended registration on Medford Avenue, just south of Sunrise Highway, around 10:55 a.m., police said.

During the course of the traffic stop Isaiah Stevenson, 19, ran from the rear driver’s side seat, police said. A second officer chased Stevenson down and arrested him in front of a residence on Gladiola Street in Patchogue a short time later, police said.

Stevenson had a loaded 9 mm handgun with extended magazines on him, police said. A second loaded 9 mm handgun with extended magazines was found inside the vehicle, police said.

Stevenson, 19, of Medford, was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and four counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Anthony Rivera Gomez, 18, of Medford, and two 17-year-old juveniles, were each charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Stevenson and Rivera Gomez were held overnight and are scheduled to be arraigned at First Distrct Court in Central Islip on Wednesday. The two 17-year-old juveniles were held overnight and are scheduled to appear as adolescent offenders at First Distrct Court in Central Islip, on Wednesday.
