5 Hurt In 2 Separate Crashes In Brookhaven Town: Police

Five adults were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and a child was evaluated, at local hospitals, Suffolk police say.

BROOKHAVEN TOWN, NY — Five people were hurt in two separate crashes within 20 minutes of each other in Brookhaven Town on Thursday night, Suffolk police said.

In the first crash, a man driving a 1996 Toyota sedan with an adult passenger was traveling southbound on Mastic Road in Mastic at around 7:20 p.m., when the vehicle collided with a northbound 2007 Dodge Suburban turning left onto Somerset Avenue, according to police.

The Dodge was driven by a woman with a child in the backseat, police said.

Both of the drivers and passengers were taken to NYU Langone - Suffolk in East Patchogue for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries for the adults and an evaluation for the child, who was in a passenger restraint, police said, adding that the child had no apparent injury.

In the second crash, a 2024 Honda, which was being driven northbound on Ridge Road in Rocky Point pulled out in front of a 2004 Chevrolet that was traveling eastbound on Route 25A at around 7:45 p.m., according to police.

The Chevrolet's driver, a man, and a woman riding with him, were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The Honda's driver, a man, was taken to Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
