BLUE POINT, NY — Billy’s Park, a skate park named in honor of Billy Schettino, who was struck and killed in 2012, opened recently with a large crowd of family members, friends, and neighbors in attendance.

The 2-acre park, located at Park Street and Bowne Avenue on the long-vacant former site of the Blue Point Laundry, is dedicated to Schettino, who was 18 when he was struck on the Long Island Expressway by a Suffolk County Sheriff’s cruiser while tending to his disabled vehicle.

It was his dream to have a skate park on the site, and in addition to the skate area, the location includes a basketball court, playground, walking path, and visitors’ parking lot.
