Book Lovers Unite! Big Fundraising Book Sale Coming This May!

Sale will be held on May 10th, 2025, 8:30 am - 5 pm @ 2 Country View Lane, East Islip

Light Hearted Lap Reads, LHLReads for short is run by two long-time friends- Samantha, a Patchogue resident, and Julia, from East Islip. Both were born and raised in Farmingdale and have lived on Long Island their whole lives. After 5 years of running a book club, they thought, how can we spread our love of reading on a larger scale? This is where the book sale fundraiser idea was born!

Samantha and Julia spent the last few months, -days, nights, and weekends too- driving all across Nassau and Suffolk picking up book donations from the community as part of their fundraiser for The Little Free Library. The Little Free Library has a special place in the heart of Samantha and Julia, spending their lunch breaks seeking out new ones and hoping for a great book find, plus leaving some books of their own. All the proceeds from this event will go to a wonderful cause: a one-time donation to the Little Free Library, in addition to another few months of driving around and filling libraries around the island with any unsold books.

Worried the selection will be limited? They’ve got everything—fiction, romance, horror, thriller, contemporary, classics, vintage, non-fiction, biographies, cooking, art, comics, textbooks, teacher tools, children's books, chapter books, series, and so much more! With an incredible selection for readers of all ages and interests, you’ll definitely find something to dive into. It’s the perfect opportunity to snag your next great read, pick up a thoughtful gift for the bookworm in your life, or add a hidden gem to your personal collection.

And don’t worry about breaking the bank—everything is priced to sell, so you’ll be able to score great deals without the guilt! All books are under $3, many options for under $1! Payment is made easy with the option for cash, Venmo, or Zelle. It’s a chance to give back and help spread the love of books.

But that’s not all! Local artists will also be joining the event, many of who are also members of the book club, offering their creative bookish trinkets. Think bookmarks, jewelry, fine art, embroidery, crochet art, and unique accessories—perfect for gifts or to add a personal touch to your own collection. It’s a great way to support local talent while finding something special.

Founded in September 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the club was created as a way to escape the challenges of the times and reconnect with a shared passion for books. The first meeting took place around a fire pit, with members carefully social distancing. At the time, it was unclear whether the club would survive beyond the pandemic restrictions. But what started as a small, pandemic-driven gathering has grown into a thriving community of book lovers with over 25 members that has continued to flourish for five years. What began as a small effort to stay connected has since blossomed into a cherished community tradition—and it's still going strong!
