EAST PATCHOGUE, NY — Long Island Community Hospital has been designated a Provisional Level II Adult Trauma Center by the State's Department of Health, allowing for the treatment of all adult trauma patients, regardless of the severity, hospital officials said.

The term 'provisional' indicates the hospital is awaiting verification by the American College of Surgeons, which is expected next year. The designation marks a historic milestone as the hospital expands its acute care services to address "the greater needs of the hospital and surrounding communities across all of Suffolk," according to officials.

With the designation and comprehensive resources, the hospital can now help patients with traumatic injuries on eastern Long Island receive the care they need more quickly and "with a better chance of survival," officials said.
