Patchogue-Medford’s Kate Comiskey and Sophia Fox Named to Newsday’s Top Field Hockey Players

Raiders Senior Stars Continue to Receive Recognition

MEDFORD, NEW YORK—Patchogue-Medford High School senior goalkeeper Kate Comiskey and senior midfielder Sophia Fox were recently named to Newsday’s Top 50 Long Island High School Field Hockey Players.

A four-year varsity player and three-year captain, Kate Comiskey was named to Newsday’s list of top field hockey players last season as well. She was recognized as an All-County goalie as a sophomore and junior and has utilized her athleticism, leadership, and commitment to shine on the field.

“Kate is a strong and effective communicator during timeouts and cage talk, providing helpful feedback to the rest of the team and allowing her to guide and lead the defensive unit,” said Patchogue-Medford High School varsity field hockey coach Chryse Sacco. “She has become even stronger this year and constantly pushes herself to become better, playing year-round on her club and school teams.”

In the fall 2024 season, Kate faced 90 shots and tallied 72 saves, with only 18 goals allowed, resulting in an 80 percent save percentage. Fourteen of the 18 goals allowed were against teams ranked in the top four. Following graduation, Kate plans to continue her academic and field hockey careers at SUNY New Paltz.

Senior midfielder Sophia Fox is currently considered to be an All-State candidate. She earned All-County honors as a junior and was named an All-County Honorable Mention as a sophomore. She plays field hockey on her club and school teams throughout the year, attending college showcases, camps, and trainings as well. Last season, Sophia recorded six goals and four assists.

“Sophia is our playmaker, serving as our offensive catalyst and creating scoring opportunities for others,” said Coach Sacco. “She is our go-to player on offensive corners and our flyer on defensive corners, also taking the lead on the most difficult 25-yard hits coming in. With remarkable vision and ability to scan while in high-pressure situations, she is a smart player who chooses her next pass or movement wisely.”

After she graduates from Patchogue-Medford High School, Sophia plans to continue her studies and field hockey career at East Stroudsburg University.
