SACHEM, NY — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

This submission comes from Candice Homan who nominated her daughter, Kayla of Patchogue.

Kayla has achieved a lot over the years while maintaining a great balance between school and her lacrosse team. She’s been playing lax since middle school and fell in love with the game.

Kayla has achieved so much. She’s maintains a great school and team balance she’s been playing lacrosse since middle school and fell in love with the game. Her team members can always count on her. She goes above and beyond maintaining a wonderful GPA and is currently enrolled in a pre-medical program while getting up every morning at 5 a.m. to hit the field.
