Sunrise Hwy Gas Leak Prompts Closure Of Part Of Road Friday Afternoon: Suffolk Police
The eastbound center lane was closed at around 4 p.m., Suffolk police say.
NORTH PATCHOGUE, NY — A gas leak from an oil truck on Sunrise Highway in North Patchogue prompted officials to close a portion of the road, snarling traffic Friday afternoon, Suffolk police said.
The truck was on the right shoulder of eastbound Sunrise Highway, just east of Waverly Avenue, just after 4 p.m., when the driver smelled a strong odor of gas, according to police.
An active gas leak was confirmed at around 4:40 p.m., and the fire department closed the right and center lane, police said, adding, that a fuel pump truck also responded for cleanup.

As of 7 p.m., the lane remained closed, a police spokesperson said.
