Walmart Set To Open In Yaphank In November, Hiring Employees

YAPHANK, NY — Retail giant Walmart has opened a hiring center in anticipation of filling over 400 hourly and management positions at its newest Long Island location, The Meadows in Yaphank, with plans to open the doors in November, according to a news release.

The hiring center is located at 1490 William Floyd Pkwy, Shirley, and will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Candidates are being asked to apply for positions in advance, at Walmart.com/careers, or by texting “jobs” to 240240. For more information, call 631-924-5214.

The starting pay rate for day positions is $16 an hour, and $19.50 an hour for overnight associates. Rates for team leaders are $19 to $24, respectively.

The company offers many perks to employees, including a culture that promotes an average of over 500 associates daily, as well as affordable healthcare insurance options, including plans that start at $30.50 per pay period, and dental and vision plans, according to a news release.

Officials announced in July that the company would pay 100% of college tuition and books for all part-and full-time associates through its Live Better U education program.

The Walmart store that is currently under construction is located inside a mixed-use development at the northwest corner of the Long Island Expressway and William Floyd Parkway. The development contains housing units, a hotel, athletic field, and there are plans to add more retail stores, according to advertisements at the location.
