WATCH: A LI Sports Hall Of Fame Announces Its Class Of 2025

More than 20 people will be inducted in the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame on May 29.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Inductees for the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame's Class of 2025 have been announced.

More than 20 people with college and professional sports experience are on this year's list.

Several inductees have special meaning for Chris Vaccaro, the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame president, including Dave Gardi, a VP for the Washington Commanders and a former NFL executive.

"He's from Sayville. But the name is very important," Vaccaro said. "His dad is, obviously, Joe Gardi, who was the longtime football coach at Hofstra, is an inductee. I love these connections."

Vaccaro works on selecting each person and speaks to them about the honor.

"What means the most to me is the appreciation, 'Wow this means a lot to me.' When I get a note like that or a phone call like that, it means even more," he said.

The Long Island Ducks are represented by members of former hockey team and on the baseball front with manager and player Lew Ford.

"You could be a professional athlete or a high school coach that has made a difference in people's lives," said Vaccaro of the seection process.

The induction ceremony is scheduled for May 29 at Flowerfield in St. James. Check out the hall's website for ticket information.
