2 Young Men Charged in Thefts from Cars on 3 Port Chester Streets

Money stolen from unlocked cars in driveways on Glen Avenue, Linden Street, Leicester Street.

A tip by a Port Chester man who noticed two young men hanging around his car led  to the discovery of thefts from cars parked in driveways on three different streets, according to Port Chester Police.
A 19-year-old from Port Chester and a 17-year-old from Katonah have been arrested in connection with the incidents in which police said unlocked cars were targeted.
Lt. James Ladeairous said the incident is another example in which Port Chester residents can prevent crimes like this by simply locking their car doors — even if the car is in the driveway of a house.
"People think if the car is in the driveway nothing will happen," said Ladeairous. "If they would lock the doors, they can avoid something like this from happening to them."
The latest thefts from cars in Port Chester were discovered when a resident of Husted Street alerted police at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday that he saw two young men outside his home looking at his car. When confronted, the man said the young men ran toward Willett Avenue.
Ladeairous said the Husted Street met with Police Officer Antonio Rivera, who spotted the young men on the porch of a Willett Avenue home. Ladeairous said that When Rivera investigated, he found the young men had a large amount of coins on them.
The investigation led to the discovery of the theft of small amounts of money from three cars and attempted thefts from three other cars on Linden Street, Glen Avenue and Leicester Street. There was no reported damage to the cars involved.
Patrick D. Mahonski, 19, of 111 Midland Ave., Port Chester, and Dashiel R. Robilotto, 17, of 21 Huntsville Road, Katonah, were both charged with three counts of petty larceny and three counts of attempted petty larceny. They both face hearings in Port Chester Village Court.
