Basketball Tournament to Support Scholarship Dedicated to Memory of Port Chester Chef

Waine T. Grose Jr. died in 2010 at age 24.

A basketball tournament at Port Chester's Carver Center will help remember a local chef who died at age 24 and support a scholarship fund created in his honor.

The third annual Waine Grose Basketball Tournament is set for Wednesday, May 22, from 6 to 9 p.m., with proceeds going to the fund that supports a scholarship for a Port Chester High School student who wants to pursue an education in the culinary arts.

The scholarship fund was created by Grose's mother, Janet. Admission to the tournament is $5 per adult and $3 per child.

Waine T. Grose Jr. of Port Chester died August 15, 2010. He was was the son of Waine and Janett Foster Grose and was raised and educated in Port Chester. He graduated from Port Chester High School and Johnson and Wales University.

He was a chef at Tamarack Country Club in Greenwich, CT.
