Car Arson Suspect Arrested, Found With Armor-Piercing Bullets: Police

Port Chester police believe they have solved the case of a string of car arsons, but more questions remain unanswered.

PORT CHESTER, NY — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a string of recent vehicle arsons, but what officers discovered during the arrest was perhaps even more concerning.

Port Chester police announced over the weekend that after a long investigation by detectives, 30-year-old Fredy Hernandez-Paz was charged with nine counts of felony arson in the third degree.

After his arrest, a search found a 30-round magazine with armor-piercing bullets, which resulted in a charge of misdemeanor large capacity ammo feed device, according to police.

Police thanked area residents and establishments for cooperating in providing video, which helped identify the suspect.

While the supect did not provide a motive for his actions, he did admit to his acts, according to police.

Hernandez-Paz was arraigned in Rye Town court and released with a future court date.

The Port Chester Police Department commended Detectives Carriero and Morales on their "dedication and non stop effort in identifying and locating the suspect."
