Mirror Seen as Cause of Haseco Avenue Fire in Port Chester
Rear wall of home damaged; no one injured.

A mirror left at the rear of a Port Chester home is suspected as the cause of a fire that damage a wall of the house, according to Port Chester Police.
A 911 call alerted police and the Port Chester Fire Department to a fire at 87 Haseco Ave. at about 1:29 p.m. Friday. When police arrived, a tenant said that her apartment was filled with smoke and that the siding at the rear of the home was burning.
Police said the home was safely evacuated and the fire was quickly extinguished by Port Chester firefighters. A rear wall of the home was damaged by the fire.
While checking the rear of the home, police said they found a large mirror. Investigators believe the mirror and the light it reflected generated enough heat to set the home's siding on fire.
In addition to police and firefighters, Port Chester code enforcement officers were also called to assist in the investigation.
On Sunday, Port Chester police and firefighters were also called to 29 Palace Place for a fire in a basement. When police arrived, they found several men attempting to put out a fire with a garden hose.
Police said the fire was believed to be from partially-used charcoal that was put into it's original bag, with the bag then placed in the basement.
