Obituary: Stella Loretta Travers, 96.

Born in Port Chester, former resident of Harrison.

Stella Loretta (Ferenz) Travers, 96, of Stratford, CT, beloved wife of the late Edward J. Travers, passed away Feb. 26 in Hillsborough, N.H., where she had recently resided.

Born in Port Chester, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Ferenz and Mary (Gorlei) Ferenz and was predeceased by her sisters, Loretta ("Laura") Hay and Mildred Lawless, and brothers, Stanley, Edward, Charles, William, August ("Eddie"), and Henry Ferenz. 

Survivors include her devoted children, son, Wayne Travers and wife Judy, of Antrim, N.H., and daughter Gail Dorset and husband, Dick Nichol of Dunnellon, Fla., and Damariscotta, Me.; loving grandchildren Wayne Jr. and wife Eileen, Amy Wells and husband, Schuyler, and Loren Beaudoin and husband, John; great-grandchildren, Tim Wells and wife, Erin, Josh Wells, Gregory Beaudoin, and Cecilia Beaudoin, all of Shelton, CT, and Bryan Crisci of Plainville, Conn., and Meghan Crisci of Milwaukee, WI.; and several nieces and nephews.

Stella moved to Connecticut in 1955 from Harrison, N.Y., settling in Stratford, where she raised her family. 

She retired after a 20-year sales career at Read's landmark department store in Bridgeport. During her retirement, she took up golf at the age of 74 and enjoyed spending time in Florida and at her Delaware Drive home, where she loved working in her yard and visiting with her neighbors and treasured friends, Peter and Eleanor Lynn. 

Stella will be remembered for her kind disposition, her attentiveness to friends and family, and the ability to form special friendships wherever she was, including in Stratford, at Coachman Square in Woodbridge, and at Hillsboro House in New Hampshire. 

She was a longtime communicant of St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford, where a memorial Mass will be held Monday, April 15, at 10 a.m.
