In May of last year the village reported that it had satisfied the initial application process to submit a request for a federal grant through Rep. Mondaire Jones' office for funding to support its village hall boiler replacement project. Click Here to read our initial announcement from May 6, 2021.   Just this month we were advised that the Village of Port Chester was successful in its application and is approved to receive $250,000 towards the investment and implementation of this project.   The funding will be used to provide a clean, cost-effective alternative for traditional heating and cooling by eliminating fossil fuels and reducing energy bills while also complementing New York State’s Clean Heat initiative and highlighting Port Chester as an exemplary partner within the community. A geothermal system is estimated to reduce electricity use by up to 50%. While traditional systems typically last between 15-20 years, a geothermal system can last up to 10 years longer. Reducing municipal utilities and annual operational costs has a direct positive impact on taxpayers and would allow the Village to reallocate that cost savings to other critical projects within the community.     "The realization of this fiscal support for our project from the federal level is a large step forward for the Village of Port Chester and is certainly a tremendous green and sustainable achievement. Our success in effecting this replacement plan will put us on track to eliminate the village's dependence on natural gas to heat and cool our substantially sized village hall. There is no question that we will continue to explore additional energy solutions for other municipal properties and in our approach of how we provide services."-Stuart L.
