Long Island Woman On Drugs Crashes Car With Children Inside: Police

She was charged under Leandra's Law, Suffolk police say. No one was injured.

CORAM, NY — A Coram woman has been charged under Leandra's Law with driving while under the influence of drugs after a motor vehicle crash with her nephew and niece in the vehicle, Suffolk police said.

Leigh Dellolio was driving a 2006 Nissan eastbound on Pine Road, near Corpine Lane, when the vehicle struck a fire hydrant just before 11 a.m., according to police.

Investigators determined Dellolio was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash, police said, adding that no one was injured, and the children, a 6-year-old boy and 3-year-old girl, were
released to a family member.

Dellolio, 47, of was charged with aggravated driving while ability impaired by drugs with a child passenger 15 years old or younger under Leandra’s Law, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Leandra's Law is named after Leandra Rosado who was the passenger of a car driven by an alleged impaired driver and died.

She will be held overnight at the 6th Precinct in Selde and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.

The Nissan was impounded.
