Port Washington School Board to Vote on Bond Resolution

The vote is slated for Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015.

The Port Washington School District Board of Education will be voting on a capital project bond resolution during the Board of Education meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015. The meeting will be held in the Paul Schreiber High School auditorium at 8 p.m. All community residents are invited to attend.

Per the resolution, the total bond amount is $69,877,198 with payments spread over 20 years. The list of capital projects proposed for the bond referendum includes two categories: facility needs and spatial needs. Facility needs entails numerous repairs and renovations to district facilities, including new construction to create a 21st-century learning environment for our current students and our growing student population. The spatial needs category involves new construction at all seven buildings in the district, including permanent integrated structures, which will replace the portables.

The complete list of proposed capital projects represents months of collaboration among the Board of Education, district administrators and professional staff, community groups and individuals, the architectural firm and an independent demographer. The scope of work will be discussed during the Jan. 13 meeting. If the Board votes to adopt the resolution, the public vote will tentatively be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2015.
