5 Things To Do This Week Around Crown Heights

Don't let the heat stop you from enjoying what's left of summer. Check out what's happening this week around Prospect and Crown Heights.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — This week's temperatures will continue to linger in the 90s, ensuring that residents will be hiding inside, turning on Netflix and cranking the AC in efforts to beat the heat. We encourage you to fight the urge to lock yourself inside, and instead check out these events happening around Prospect and Crown Heights this week.

  1. Brown Privilege Comedy at Friends and Lovers at 641 Classon Ave: Hosted by DJ Sareen, this show is free and features up and coming comics. Check out a previous performance here. The show begins at 8 p.m. this Tuesday, August 16.
  2. 2016 Summer Olympics Viewing at the Brooklyn Museum at 200 Eastern Parkway: A cash bar and pop-up talks about the current exhibition Who Shot Sports: A Photographic History, 1843 to the Present, are part of this screening which takes place in the museum's Steinberg Family Sculpture Garden. Stop by from 8 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, August 18.
  3. Nerdeoke at the Way Station at 683 Washington Ave: Hosted by the Kings of Karaoke, nerds and nerd adjacents are invited to stop by Prospect Height's Dr. Who-themed bar for free karaoke every Sunday beginning at 10 p.m.
  4. Lola Star's Dreamland Roller Disco at Lakeside Brooklyn at 171 East Dr: This event is 21+ and skaters are encourage to arrive in costume. This week's theme is Soul Train: House, Soul & 80s Club and tickets can be purchased for $18. Get ready for prizes and DJ's spinning the best of 80s soul this Friday, August 19 from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m.
  5. Wash Ave Eats: Restaurant Weekat participating restaurants along Washington Ave: Presented by the Washington Ave Prospect Heights Association, this inaugural festival features speciality prix fix menus, brunches and cocktail events from the best restaurants on the row.
