5 Things: Astronomy on Tap and Subway Talk

Plus a showing of "On the Bowery" and a poetry reading.

1. Hang with the stargazers (and have a beer).
For those of us into the questions of the universe, now there's Science Talk: Astronomy on Tap at The Way Station. Because astronomy is always better with beer, The Way Station is offering a series of short free public science talks ranging from black holes to planets by astronomers from Yale University, NYU, College of Staten Island and more. Afterwards there will be a chance to ask questions and talk one-on-one with the speakers.

2. See a forgotten masterpiece (and have some wine). There's also Movie Nights at Atlantic Co. tonight, where you can see "On the Bowery," the 1956 forgotten semi-documentary "starring the lost souls and wayward drunks of skid row," according to Atlantic Co. 8:30 p.m.

3. Meet some poets (and have a martini). Branded Saloon is also stepping outside of the typical bar activities tonight with a poetry reading.  starts at 7 p.m.

4. Hang with the subway cool kids (sorry, no drinks). Tonight at the New York Transit Museum, there's Problem Solvers - FASTRACK, where the very knowledgable transit blogger Ben Kabak of Second Ave. Sagas discusses the FASTRACK maintenance program with the MTA's Larry Gould. The event is part of "a series of informal discussions that takes an intimate look at the most interesting people and topics relating to moving millions of New Yorkers in a city with a century-old transit system," according to the museum. 6:30 pm. Boerum Pl & Schermerhorn.

5. Move the car. Alternate side parking rules are in effect today.
