CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — What better way to kick off 2023 with a public workshop about a long awaited rezoning along Atlantic Avenue?

On Jan. 17, the city will host a virtual workshop for the Atlantic Avenue Mixed Use Plan, part of Mayor Eric Adams' "moonshot" housing plan.

The first in a series of community planning meetings, the AAMUP is seemingly a full incorporation of the M-CROWN rezoning community leaders developed almost a decade ago, which would rezone the corridor from a mostly low-rise manufacturing area to permit mixed-use residential buildings in order to increase housing stock while keeping jobs in the community.

"We want a mixed-use neighborhood but we actually want mixed-use buildings," CB8 member and community activist Gib Veconi told Patch in December, adding that the CB8 vision calls for buildings where "residential [units] cross-subsidizes light manufacturing use."

The workshop, co-hosted by facilitator WXY, will help educate residents about the community planning process, how to share thoughts and input, and help the city and others identify key issues to address in the rezoning.
