Brooklyn 14-Year-Old Brings Gun, Ammo to School: NYPD

The student may have been trying to arm himself for a confrontation with unknown individuals outside of school, a police source says.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A 14-year-old boy attending Middle School 61 along Empire Boulevard in Crown Heights was arrested Tuesday afternoon for bringing a 9 mm handgun and nine rounds of bullets to school, according to the NYPD.

A police source told Patch that an administrator at MS 61 became worried when the boy told said he was having "some sort of confrontation with people outside the school who are not students." So the administrator spoke with school security, our source said, and brought the kid into the office.

There, the 14-year-old allegedly admitted he was armed.

NYPD officers pulled up to the campus around 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, a police spokesman said, "in response to a call from school staff of a male student with a firearm."

"The male was taken into custody without incident," the spokesman said.

Police aren't releasing the student's name, seeing as he's a minor. They did announce his charges, though: possession of a weapon weapon and possession of a weapon on school grounds.
