Brothers Open Community Bike Shop In PLG
The bike shop will offer espresso, pizza, beer and, of course, bikes.

PROSPECT-LEFFERTS, BROOKLYN — Three bike-loving brothers have fulfilled a longtime wish to open a community bike shop in their beloved Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.
The new bike shop at 755 Flatbush Ave, called Burrowes Brother Bikes, is helmed by Guyanese brothers Jermaine, Paul, and Johann Burrowes, and their aim is to spread their love of cycling throughout Brooklyn.
“My brothers and I are thrilled to officially open the doors to our first bike shop,” said Jermaine Burrowes.

“Burrowes Brothers Bikes is a dream come true and will help us continue to achieve our larger mission of making cycling more accessible for all,” he said in an announcement.
The brothers are standouts in the cycling world. In 2004, they started one of the most diverse and awarded cycling teams in the Northeast, called We Stand United Cycling.

They started out with no formal training and worked their way up through the traditionally white and wealthy sport with cheap equipment and handmade uniforms.
Now, according to their website, the team has 18 cyclists, and all three brothers are Cat 1 professional cyclists and compete in national and international races.
Jermaine Burrowes has become one of the most decorated cyclists in the Northeast, winning over 150 races, including being a six-time champion of the Floyd Bennett Series.

Off bike, they've also found business success in their neighborhood.
A lucrative parking lot business allowed them to open a neo-Caribbean restaurant, Mangoseed, in 2009.
And in 2015, the brothers opened a wood-fired pizza spot and bourbon bar called Zuirlee.
Their newest venture allows them to combine all of their interests and experiences in one. In the mornings, the bike shop will serve espresso and coffee, switching to beer and margaritas in the evening, with a wood-fired oven offering fresh pizzas.
Additionally, the bike shop will will offer workshops, bike fittings/maintenance, community events and training rides to help foster the next generation of bikers.
