Grand Army Plaza Construction To Commence, Says Park Alliance.
The work will begin in the spring and shouldn't impact parking or traffic, according to a meeting earlier this week.

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — The Prospect Park Alliance shared updates of the nearly $9 million restoration of Grand Army Plazaon Monday evening.
Christian Zimmerman, a VP of capital projects at the Prospect Park Alliance, shared that while some landscape work should start this fall, the main target of the project — the restoration of the 1892 Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial Monument — will begin in Spring of 2023.
The landscaping work this fall will focus on the berms, the bits of off-limits green space surrounding nearby Plaza Streets East and West. The areas, Zimmerman said, are filled with hazards and invasive species, and need to be cleared out in a 20-foot buffer zone, as they weren't able to perform work on the entire area.

"It's such a massive area but we're focusing on being strategic and taking away invasives in that 20 foot buffer zone," he said Monday.
They will also replace the current chain link fence with an iron one.

All the big work starts in the spring.
Aside from the arch, which is getting much needed repairs to its masonry, interior ceiling and staircase, the walkways around Grand Army Plaza are getting a revamp as well.
A project from the Mayor's office, called "State of Good Repair," according to Zimmerman, granted the Alliance funding to replace the most damaged parts of the walkway and to fix drainage issues.
"We were lucky enough to get this funding to begin the process around to restore the the walkways around Grand Army Plaza," he said.
While the contract for the Arch restoration is still in the award phase, Zimmerman still expects work to begin next spring.
