Lefferts Bat Attack: Victim Dies, Suspect Charged With Murder

Police said that Flatbush resident Wade Dixon, 49, was beaten to death with a bat by Hakeem Drawhorn, 30, from Lefferts Gardens.

LEFFERTS GARDENS, BROOKLYN — A Flatbush man who was the victim of a brutal baseball bat attack on Aug. 7 has died, police said, and the NYPD have charged a man from Lefferts Gradens with murder.

Wade Dixon, 49, was walking in front of 578 Albany Ave. — near Crown Heights and Brownsville — when he was repeatedly struck in the head by a man wielding a bat, police said. The assailant then fled the scene.

Dixon subsequently died from his injuries, the NYPD said. But on Tuesday, the department announced that Hakeem Drawhorn, a 30-year-old from Lefferts Gardens, had bee arrested on Aug. 11 and charged by police with murder.

Citing unnamed sources, the New York Daily News reported that Dixon and Drawhorn were linked by a woman they had both dated.

Dixon was killed in the NYPD's 71st Precinct, which patrols Lefferts Gardens. Through Aug. 7, major crimes were collectively down about 15 percent in the 71st compared to the same period last year, according to police statistics.

However, felony assaults are up slightly, with 216 recorded through Aug. 7 compared to 207 during the same period in 2015.
