PROSPECT LEFFERTS GARDENS, BROOKLYN — A man convicted for a brutal rape near Prospect Park has been sentenced to 20 years, the Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced Thursday.

Mowngly Lucas, 32, choked and sexually assaulted a 59-year-old grandmother on Parkside Avenue near Parade Place in the early hours of Nov. 18, 2018, according to the District Attorney's office.

Gonzalez praised the bravery of the woman, who testified against Lucas in court.

"This was a vicious, life-altering attack that profoundly affected the victim and her family," Gonzalez said.

"It took great courage for her to testify at trial and ensure that this defendant would be held accountable for his actions.”

Lucas, who lived in a Queens homeless shelter when arrested, told the victim he had a gun and a knife and placed her in a chokehold, the Brooklyn District Attorney's office said.

After he raped the woman three times, he stole money from her purse and ran away, officials said.

Gonzalez's office said that 10 days later, NYPD officers arrested Lucas. He was convicted last December after a jury trial.

The Daily News reports he carried a bible during the attack and told the terrified woman she'd never see her grandchildren again.
