Ocean Hill Man Shot Dead in Crown Heights, Possibly Following Fight

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — An Ocean Hill man was shot to death early Sunday morning in Crown Heights, police said.
Dion James, 30, was shot at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Union Street just before 4 a.m. on Sunday, according to the NYPD.

Responding officers found James with gunshot wounds to the back, according to police. He was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The New York Daily News reported that Dion was shot after intervening in a fight between his wife and the shooter, who was a man. The wife had been questioned by police, according to the paper.

No arrests had been made in the case as of Monday morning and the investigation was ongoing, police said.

This shooting occurred in the NYPD's 71st Precinct. According to official police statistics, through June 19, major crimes in the 71st were collectively down nearly 14 percent compared to the same time period last year. One murder had been reported in the precinct during each period.
