Union Pool Alum Opens His First Bar In Crown Heights
A barman with ties to some of the borough's favorite hangouts just opened his first spot on the border of Prospect and Crown Heights.
CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A barman with ties to some of the hottest hangouts in the city opened his first-ever spot on the border of Crown Heights and Prospect Heights this weekend.
Sam Geyer — a former Union Pool manager and Metrograph movie theater consultant — opened Bar Meridian at 406 Prospect Place on Grand Avenue last weekend, Timeout New York was first to report.
Owners posted photos of a jam-packed, darkly lit bar to Instagram and thanked everyone who turned out for the event.

Geyer describes the new watering hole as "a modern corner bar” that's comfortable but with some elements of style, such as a nibbling menu from Chef Millicent Souris, formerly of The Roebling Tea Room, that includes tortillas with radishes, spaghetti with chili flakes and bologna sandwiches with mustard, according to TimeOut.

Geyer told Time Out the name is derived from the bar's location on the border of the two neighborhoods.
"I really like the idea of division of spaces and neighborhoods and how neighborhoods collid," he reportedly said. "How they have pretty significantly different identities but create something nice together.”
