The other four victims — a 69-year-old woman, a 64-year-old man, a 36-year-old man, and a 16-year-old boy — are all expected to survive, NYPD officials said.

NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell said the gunman — described as a Black man in his 20s with a slim build wearing a brown shirt with paint stains and black bandana — ran into the crowd on the cement barrier at 301 Eastern Parkway and "fired his weapon numerous times."

“The West Indian American Day Parade is a joyous event that celebrates the multitude of culture and diversity in our city. But instead of allowing all to enjoy a momentous occasion for our city, a gunman turned today’s celebration into tragedy when he senselessly fired into the crowd, hitting multiple revelers," Mayor Eric Adams and West Indian American Day Carnival Association President Roger Archibald said in a joint statement.

So far, no arrests have been made, and the gunman is still at large. The police are hunting for the gunman and urged anyone with video to contact the NYPD at 1-800-577-TIPS.

"We are going to solve this but is going to take a lot of work," Chell said.
