- Bad news, commuters. The 7 train will not run between Queens and Manhattan for six weekends, according to the MTA. Starting in February, the 7 line service will be suspended between the 34th Street-Hudson Yards stop and the Queensboro Plaza station. The disruption is due to the installation of new elevators at the Queensboro station — a move that will make the station fully accessible. (PIX11 New York News)
- A Queens community board member was booted from office after they referred to COVID-19 as the "Wu-Flu" during a public meeting. On Jan. 11, Community Board 5 (CB 5) member Richard Huber stated, "When all you ever heard about the vaccine — these so-called vaccines — for the "Wu-Flu,'" during a remote meeting. Due to the code of conduct which bars discrimination, Huber was immediately removed from CB 5 — which covers the neighborhoods of Maspeth, Ridgewood, Glendale, and Middle Village — by Borough President Donovan Richards. (New York Post)
- On Tuesday, a teen boy was stabbed outside of a high school in Queens. At around 9:15 a.m., the 17-year-old was stabbed in the back twice behind Flushing High School at Northern Boulevard and Union Street. Now, police are searching for more than a half-dozen teens who may be involved in the assault. According to police, the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. (1010 WINS)
