Cop Left Unconscious Man On Queens Sidewalk In Frigid Temps: NYPD

The NYPD officer was arrested for reckless endangerment and suspended without pay, police say.

QUEENS, NY -- An NYPD officer was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly dumping an unconscious man on a Queens sidewalk in subfreezing temperatures.

John Luna, 23, and another man were driving around with the passed-out man in the backseat in the early hours of Jan. 7, police told Patch.

The two left him facedown on a sidewalk in the cold at around 4 a.m., an NYPD spokeswoman said. She could not confirm where in Queens the sidewalk was.

Temperatures that day got as low as 6 degrees, with wind gusts up to 31 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Luna was cuffed in the 107th precinct and charged with reckless endangerment. He was suspended from the NYPD without pay for 30 days, an NYPD spokeswoman said.
