Here are the top 3 stories today in Queens:

  1. Mayor Adams expressed reservations about a controversial bill passed under his predecessor that grants green card holders the right to vote in local elections. Under the bill, people will be required to reside in the five boroughs for at least 30 days to be able to vote. If Adams doesn’t act, the bill will automatically become law 30 days after it was passed. (New York Post)
  2. Police are investigating after a woman was found stabbed near Broadway and 23rd Street, on the border of Astoria and Long Island City. An initial report was made at 8:35 p.m. Saturday when police found an unconscious woman on the sidewalk. The woman had been stabbed multiple times and was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The incident is the city’s first documented homicide of 2022. (WPIX 11 New York)
  3. A woman in Queens is facing a tax bill of more than $20,000 — more than double the previously-assessed value — due to an error that hasn't been easy to get fixed. Livia Boyadjian has spent months contacting multiple city agencies to no avail, and in the meantime has been paying the charges to avoid any penalties. She finally contacted John Liu, her state senator, who says the runaround she's received is "inexcusable" and is fighting to set things straight. (WABC-TV)
