Scooter Passenger, 62, Killed In Queens Crash
Severo Gonzalez, 62, died after being flung from a scooter driven by a 25-year-old man early Monday, police said.

QUEENS, NY — A 62-year-old scooter passenger died after being flung from the two-wheeled vehicle as its driver tried to swerve around a turning car in Queens, police said.
Doctors pronounced Severo Gonzalez, 62, deceased at a local hospital after the early Monday crash along 146th Street and Jamaica Avenue, authorities said.
A preliminary investigation found that a 25-year-old man drove a scooter with Gonzalez in tow about 12:30 a.m., NYPD officials said.

They headed east along Jamaica Avenue until 146th Street, where the driver of a car tried to make a left turn, police said. The scooter driver swerved to avoid the turning car, but lost control of his moped, authorities said.
The swerve flung both the driver and Gonzalez from the moped, officials said.

Both were rushed to a local hospital, where the driver was treated and Gonzalez was pronounced dead, police said.
