City Of Rochester Holiday Closings (minorityreporter.net) — City Hall, the 311 Call Center, and other Rochester administrative offices will close on New Year’s Day, with trash and recycling pickup pushed back one day for the rest of the week. Rochester Public Libraries will close early on New Year’s Eve, stay closed January 1, and the Public Market will also be closed on the holiday before resuming its regular schedule.
   

2. $98M headed to Rochester for affordable housing projects (rochesterfirst.com) — Nearly $100 million in state funding is coming to Rochester to create and preserve 282 affordable apartments, including a major conversion of a vacant downtown office building into Gateway Apartments. Another large share will preserve affordability at Los Flamboyanes in Upper Falls, with both projects designed for energy efficiency and long-term neighborhood stability.
   

3. Weather snarls holiday travel at Rochester airport, leaving flyers stranded (rochesterfirst.com) — If you’re flying out of Greater Rochester International Airport, expect possible delays or cancellations as unsettled weather continues to disrupt flights to major hubs. Travelers have already been stranded, rebooked days later, and urged to closely monitor airline alerts and local forecasts before heading to the airport.
   

4. New URochester, Strong Museum partnership boosts play and game research (rbj.net) — The University of Rochester and The Strong National Museum of Play are teaming up to make the city a global hub for play and game studies. Their new partnership will expand research, courses, field trips, and community programming that use The Strong’s vast collections to explore how play supports learning, creativity, and innovation for all ages.
   

5. Monroe County STOP-DWI And Law Enforcement Urges Drivers To Make Safe Choices This Holiday Season (minorityreporter.net) — Rochester and Monroe County drivers will see stepped-up DWI enforcement through January 1 as local agencies join the statewide STOP-DWI Holiday Season High Visibility Engagement Campaign. Officials urge residents to plan sober rides, watch for impaired friends, and use tools like the free “Have a Plan” app to keep celebrations safe on local roads.
