Cops: Driver, Passengers Escape After 8-Mile Police Chase

Five passengers were apprehended but several are still on the run, police said.

State Police are searching for a driver and passengers that fled police for miles and struck a trooper’s car before running with several passengers.

At 1:04 p.m. Monday, troopers attempted to stop a black Mitsubishi Outlander that was speeding on Ocean Parkway near the Wantagh State Parkway, cops said.

The car led police on an 8-mile chase from Ocean Parkway to the Meadowbrook State Parkway and into Freeport, police said. The driver got off the Meadowbrook briefly on Babylon Turnpike before reentering the highway, cops said.

The SUV struck the trooper’s car before it abruptly stopped at Lena Avenue and Wallace Street in Freeport, where the driver and several passengers fled the scene, officials said.

Five other passengers were taken into custody at the scene, police said.

State Police are asking anyone with information to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
