Jurassic Wonders Unveiled: Long Island’s Center for Science Expands NY’s Largest Robotic Dinosaur Exhibit

Three New Life-Like Robotic Dinosaurs added for the not-for-profit's 25th Anniversary

The Center for Science at Tanglewood Preserve celebrated its 25th anniversary with a prehistoric expansion with VIPs, elected officials and guests in attendance. At a special unveiling event, the Center introduced three new life-like robotic additions: a towering 15-foot Lessemsaurus and two Coelophysis models, now part of its popular Dinosaurs! and Live Animals Exhibit.

Over 75 VIPs, elected officials, guests and friends of the Center for Science attended the gala unveiling, including Nassau County Parks Deputy Commissioner Michael D’Ambrosio, Town of Hempstead Councilwoman Laura Ryder, Rockville Centre Mayor Francis X. Murray, and representatives from the offices of New York State Sen. Siela Bynoe, Nassau Comptroller Elaine Phillips and Nassau Legislator Bill Gaylor.

With these additions, the exhibit now features 15 animatronic dinosaurs and 23 total dinosaur displays, including skeletal models. Combined with more than 40 live animals and immersive educational stations, the Center continues to be one of the most visited science attractions in the New York Metro area.

Lessemsaurus, a long-necked sauropod from the Late Triassic of Argentina, represents early dinosaur evolution and now stands tall in the exhibit as a gentle prehistoric giant. Coelophysis, one of the earliest known dinosaurs, was a lightweight predator built for speed and precision. This family-friendly and affordable exhibit is also the largest permanent collection of robotic dinosaurs in New York State.

“The 25th anniversary is more than a milestone. It is a tribute to our mission of providing hands-on, fun and engaging science education and experiences,” said Dr. Ray Ann Havasy, Executive Director of the Center for Science. “By blending science with excitement, we fascinate learners of all ages and inspire the next generation of explorers and scientists.”
